The vast majority of leadership training that you are spending your money on
right now is crap. I've seen it all, and for the most part the industry is
catering to a society that has inflated self-esteem with no tolerance for
stress.
LEADERSHIP IS STRESSFUL
If you try to teach people how to ride a bike,
but they've never seen one and don't have one to train on, you'll have a lot
of people who can't ride a bike. But, they'll be able to quote the
biggest bike-riding gurus chapter and verse. If you want managers who are
book trained on leadership, then keep doing what you are doing.
If you want leaders do something different.

There is no opting
out of the leadership decision. You either develop your leaders through
purposeful, planned effort, or you choose an alternative. Alternatives to
directed and expert leadership training are expensive, frustrating, and time
consuming. They are:

1. Hire and fire until you get the right people in the
right positions.
2. Develop your own, internal leadership training

3. Maintain status quo and cope with weaknesses in
current employees
|
|
|
I am a proponent of professional
corporate training. As an author on the subject of corporate leadership and as a
business owner I cannot think of a better way to put money into the pockets of
your shareholders, erase the competition, and set a strong foundation for the
future.
